Reopening Plan

Operating a clean, safe, and friendly environment for families has always been the guiding vision of Cafe O’Play.
Since the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020, we have set out to address improving our business from every possible angle. Our goal was to mitigate the risk of the potential transmission of viruses and apply all that our culture has learned about safest practices. During the shutdown in March, April, May, and June, we made extensive updates to our facility and our systems so that we can provide families in Northeast Ohio with the safest possible indoor play environment.  Here are the changes you can expect when returning to Cafe O’Play.

New Systems

  • Waivers
    • As most facilities like ours do, we will require all guests to sign a waiver.
      • We provide three ways that guests can sign our waiver.
        • Click here to sign our waiver online.
        • When you arrive at Cafe O’Play you will find a QR code that you can scan to complete the waiver on your mobile device.
        • Or, after you enter Cafe O’Play you will see two Waiver Kiosks to your left which you can use to complete the waiver.
    • Appropriate Social Distancing While Waiting
      • Our employees will check in one guest at a time. If additional guests are waiting to check-in, we will ask that they stand on the various “x” marks that will be 6-feet apart.
      • A plexiglass shield will be in front of our point of sale stations to protect customers and staff during transactions.

    Preplay Precautions & Procedures

    • Wearing Masks
      • We will support the state and local efforts around wearing masks. Currently, the Governor of Ohio has recommended that all people wear masks when going out in public and we encourage our guests to do so.
      • We will make both child-sized and adult masks available for purchase.
      • Face masks for adult customers are strongly recommended but not required.
      • Due to their activity level in the Play Area, children are not expected to wear face masks.
    • Employee Safety Precautions
      • All Cafe O’Play employees will be required to wear masks at all times. Staff will use gloves and masks when preparing and delivering food.
      • As always, employees will be required to use proper hand-sanitation techniques. The restaurant association recommends 3 steps for food service employees: 1) thorough 20 second hand-washing with soap and warm water 2) Liberal use of hand sanitizer liquid 3) Donning of appropriate food service gloves. This will be standard procedure and should be repeated whenever necessary and when changing tasks.
      • Any employee experiencing the 4 qualifications of fever, cough, shortness of breath or known exposure must report that to us right away and be cancelled for any up-coming shifts. They will not be allowed to return to work unless they are 72 hours free of symptoms. Cafe O’Play will also notify the Health Department if ever this occurs.
      • At the beginning of each shift and every 4 hours, each Cafe O’Play employee will also have their temperature taken and documented to ensure it is under 100ºF.
    • Health & Wellness Checks
      • As we have always done, Cafe O’Play employees will visually assess the health and wellness of all guests checking in. If a staff member sees a sign of illness that concerns them, they may ask to take a guests temperature using a contactless, infrared forehead thermometer. Any guest with a temperature over 100.4ºF will not be admitted.
      • There will be health and hygiene signs throughout the Cafe and Play Area, including the proper way to wear, handle and dispose of masks.
    • Washing Hands
      • We will be asking all guests (kids and guardians) to wash their hands before entering our Play Area. To encourage this we have installed two CleanTech ELF Automated Hand Washing units directly next to our check in counter. Within 12-seconds of inserting hands into these units they will be washed and rinsed, removing 99.9% of harmful pathogens, without any need to come in contact with handles or pumps.
      • There is also a new touchless sink in the Cafe next to these automatic units.
      • Guests may also use the sinks in the restrooms.

    Occupancy

    • Limit on Total Guests
      • Normally, our facility has a legal capacity of 250 people. However, during this time, we are limiting our capacity to 85. This limit will be posted prominently at the front door of our facility and may change as needed.
    • Seating
      • We have reduced the available seating in the cafe to allow for social distancing.
      • We have moved the Gagaball Court into the Sports Court and moved tables and chairs from the cafe into that space.

Cafe Ordering & Food Pick Up

    • Menu
      • Handheld menus will no longer be available. We will have more limited food and beverage options. Yellow arrows on our chalkboard menu will indicate what’s available and these options will rotate monthly. Later this summer, our menu will also be available on mobile devices and updated on our website.
    • Condiments
      • All condiments and utensils, sauces, etc have been moved behind the counter for staff to give per request along with each order.
    • Food Pick Up
      • All food orders, when finished, will be placed on a tray and set on the wire rack underneath the FOOD ORDER PICKUP sign. Your receipt will be taped to this tray with your name highlighted.  Staff will announce the name of the order and you may pick it up. For the time-being, and for the health and safety of our patrons, all food orders will be covered in disposable, take out-style containers.

    General Changes & Facility Upgrades

    • New Hours of Operation
      • For the time being, Open Play hours will be 10:00am – 4:00pm Wednesday & Thursday and 10:00am – 8:00pm Friday & Saturday.
      • Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays we will be open only for scheduled private parties and facility rentals.
      • Private Parties and Facility Rentals will also be available Wednesday and Thursday after 4:00pm.
    • Hourly Cooldown
      • At the top of each hour we will announce it is time for a “Five minute Cool Down”. We ask that all children come down from the play structure and sports court and check in with their adult caregivers. This time gives caregivers the opportunity to have their child: wash their hands, go to the bathroom, get some water and re-hydrate, get a snack from the cafe, and/or just take a moment to cool down.T
    • Removal of Playsets, Books & Toys
      • Our Play Area is designed for kids to enjoy multiple play styles. However, during this time, we will remove all smaller toys that may not be practical to sanitize quickly. This includes the playsets we had in Party Room One, the playset in the Cafe, and the books and toys that were in the stage area of the Cafe. These have been donated to area home daycares and local families.
    • The ROOM Booth
      • We have invested in a ROOM Booth which is a private phone booth.  From this customers may make private phone calls or video conferences.
      • The Booth is available first come-first serve or you may go online and make a specific time reservation for a small fee.
    • Craft Room/activities
      • Due to the need for less common supply use, we will phase out the use of craft supplies except for self-contained units.
    • Dance Room/Tile Upgrade
      • We have replaced the carpet in the dance room. We have also installed carpet on the walkway outside the dance room and party rooms to prevent children from slipping on the tile.
    • Play Structure Re-upholstery
      • We have replaced worn vinyl pads and blocks in the play structure.
    • PA Systems
      • We have Installed an overhead speaker system in the Play Area and Cafe for better communications and announcement-making.

    Sanitation

    • Surfaces
      • All of our surfaces were treated in February 2020 with MicroShield 360. In June 2020, we treated the newly reupholstered play structure pads and new carpeting. MicroShield’s unique antimicrobial solution has been proven effective in killing the coronaviruses and one treatment sanitizes and kills viruses for a year. For more information, see: https://microshield360.com
    • Air Quality
      • We have replaced our usual HVAC air filters with higher quality filters that work in our system.
      • All of the air ducts were professionally cleaned and vacuumed. (See our May 4th Facebook Post).
      • We installed professional iWave Air Purification units in all of our HVAC systems. These units reduce pathogens, allergens, particles, smoke and odors in the air, creating a healthy environment without producing any harmful byproducts. (See our May 6, 2020 Facebook Post).
      • For more information on how iWave works, see: www.iWave.com
    • Cleaning Products
      • Cafe O’Play will ensure we are using cleaning products that contain Emerging Viral Pathogens and Human Coronavirus claims for use against SARS-CoV-2 that are recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency.
    • Sanitation Station
      • Alcohol-based surface wipes will be available in our “Sanitation Stations” in the Cafe and Play Area. Customers are welcome to use these as they feel comfortable.
